Justin Bursk (b.1973) works and plays in his hometown with the help of his wife, kids, and his students. His work has been shown nationally including at The Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, The Texas Firehouse (NY,  NY);  Wheaton Arts (Glassboro, NJ) and Mount Airy Contemporary, (Philadelphia). He received his BFA in painting and his Art Ed Certification from Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia and his MFA in painting from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia. He has been teaching art in the public schools for 26 years. While Justin's degrees are in painting he makes many things. In 2003 his working process was described as "a builder of meaning who might help make sense of the cruelty and oppressive elements of life through sharing and playing” (catalogue for Hubris at The Hyde park Art Center, Chicago curated by The Pond). His goal is to create opportunities for persuasion where the viewer as well as the artist can find that space in between action and observation, where change is not only possible but looming. The strategies he employs rely on experimentation and failure, they are that moment we choose to not only look but to see.
